I am the director of the Modern Languages Media Center and instructional designer of the Online Learning Initiative Team at the College of Staten Island. I specialize in the implementation of technology into foreign languages and international studies courses with particular attention to the teaching of intercultural competence. I am the campus’ instructional designer for the development of virtual exchange initiatives, and from 2014 to 2018, I was the coordinator of the Heritage Telecollaboration projects for the Center for Integrated Language Communities (CILC), a National Language Resource Center. I hold M.A. in Educational Technology from New Jersey City University.

I am Lecturer and French Program Coordinator at the College of Staten Island. I hold a Master’s degree in second-language acquisition (“didactique des langues et des cultures”) at INALCO. I started teaching French as a Foreign Language in 2010 and I have taught French in high school, language school and at the college-level. I am most interested in inovative language pedagogy such as teaching a foreign language through theatre, or the use of telecollaborative practices in the foreign language classroom. I am very new at CUNY since I started teaching at CSI in 2018, and I look forward to getting to know more French-language faculty through this initiative!

Habiba Boumlik is a Professor of languages and literature at LaGuardia Community College. She teaches French, Arabic, Spanish, and Middle Eastern and North African Cinema. Her research interests encompass francophone literatures, North African immigration to France, Moroccan Judaism, and Amazigh identity. She is the founder of the New York Forum of Amazigh Film (www.nyfaf.com), an annual film festival celebrating the culture, history and diversity of the Imazighen/Berbers through film. I am a faculty member in the Linguistics Program and the director of the Institute for Language Education in Transcultural Context (ILETC) at the Graduate Center. I teach courses in applied linguistics and heritage languages. My interest is in language education, and within this larger field, literacy development, heritage language education, and the teaching and learning of literature. From 2014 to 2018, I was the director of the Center for Integrated Language Communities (CILC), a National Language Resource Center. Before coming to New York, I directed the Foreign Languages Program at Saint Xavier University in Chicago. I hold a degree in Classical Studies from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and a Ph.D. in Hispanic Language and Literature from Boston University (Boston, MA).
